Revoked Promises

Revoked Promises

A Poem by Jennifer Venter

Sometimes I feel lifted when I hear your smile

Sometimes late at nigh I whisper a cry

Can you hear, feel, touch my soul

Its deep inside me revoked

Like tears fall to the dusted ground

So I lay down how I feel inside

Broken, ashamed of what was done

Feeling hopelessly attracted to the dark

Empty love

Filled with sorrow

Empty eyes filled with pain

Empty promises that became my world

A world of angels ripped wings

Devils with grins, sparkling within

Demons of past come through

Dancing in the start light between me and you

Empty Love

Filled with Sorrow

Empty eyes filled with pain

Empty promises that became our only way

I like the flow of this poem, and find particularly compelling the use of contrasting, even paradoxical phrasings: 'hear your smile', 'whisper a cry', the repeated juxtaposition of 'empty' and 'filled'. Beautiful writing.

Okay this is going straight to my favorite. I can really relate to this piece. This poem is art. What a visual image you created. Wow I am sad because there is only one more poem left that I will be able to gather inspiration from. Keep on, Bravo, Encore encore encore!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i never did imagine a promise being "empty"
i only knew it to be broken; but this poem you have written does say a lot
and the hurt is written in every
line of your poem; and it is greatly felt.
I can relate to the sadness that runs within your lines, beautifully written. Great
job

All too often empty promises are used in a relationship....
