Dino and Dracula

Dino the friendly Dinosaur

Liked to stroll in the park

One night he saw Count Dracula

Lurking in the dark.

Dracula followed, then he pounced;

Poor Dino was out of luck.

Then Dino dodged, Dracula missed

And by his teeth -- in a tree --- he was stuck

Dino decided the safest move

Was to hurry home to his bed,

He didn’t bother to look around

To put it quite simply – he fled!

Dracula pulled free --- turned into a bat

And flew for Dino’s huge neck

Drac had been ‘dry’ for three thousand years

And was having a drink now – by heck.

Dino felt long teeth sliding home

To bury themselves in his throat

He decided to fight – right to the end

Over his body -- the count would not gloat.

Dino was strong. He staged quite a fight

Not even having to think.

Dracula clamped his jaws extra tight

So desperate was he – for a drink.

They struggled and thrashed – bushes destroyed

Dino’s roars were rousing the town

Drac held on – ‘twas a fight to the end

And dozens of trees tumbled down.

Count Drac was too strong -- Dino expired

---- His body quite still in moonlight.

Then his shadow stirred and a dinosaur bat

took off – and flew out of sight.

Dracula stood still - Dino’s blood on his chin

Eyes open in pure disbelief

As Dino flew off in the starry night

------still attached to Dracula’s teeth!

Now Count Dracula sleeps alone in the dark

With his gums – still red -- and so sore

And as he can’t drink with false dentures

He does not bite necks --- any more.

I didn't expect the ending--at all. A humorous tale.

There are a few places where the sentences or thoughts can be restructured so the lines will flow more naturally or more rhythmically, but this piece is darling. (And I don't think I have ever been moved to used that word in a review before.)

The juxtaposition of a dragon and Dracula is daft. Just the kind of daft that I enjoy exploring. And the finish is a finish.

Fun. Fun. Fun.

Absolutely silly and quite possibly the best thing I've read all read. :) While reading this I got the mental picture of the mascot for Count Chocula cereal fighting Barney the purple dinosaur. That's a great mental picture that I'm gonna carry all day with pride. :)

Fantastically amusing and fun to read! To begin with I was thinking it would make a nice poem to read to the children at school but I had changed my mind by the third stanza. I don't know how 7 year olds would handle the descriptions of death. probably a little too well these days.. :)
