The Enigma

The Enigma

A Poem by jen -- JG
"

Something that coulda, shoulda, woulda been --- but isn't -----------------------------

"

The Enigma

Was I just another plaything

Or is my heart in your possession?

Was loving you a fantasy

Or a rapturous obsession?

This emotion, an enigma

Charade of derelict flame

That simply by your absence

Brings new substance to my pain.

Beloved ---- or a plaything?

Remorse brings no reprieve

For kisses that purloined my heart

And taught me --- to -deceive.

Was this a wild flirtation

Under darkened shies above?

Or have I just become

Another ---- casualty . - of love!

I thought this was great. The last line said it all...

I have been reading a few of your things. You are exceptionally good at description in general. In this case, you are describing emotions and that can be even more difficult... but you do it with ease. Nicely done!

You reminded me of my friend who just broke up with his girlfriend of three years. Just yesterday, I was on the phone with him for nearly two hours (a lot for me as I HATE talking on the phone), and many of the questions that you asked in your poems were the same that he inquired of me. Well, the conversation ended with us both in tears because of his current situation and the memories he enflamed in me.

Anyway, on your style: I truly liked the way everything flowed in yoru piece. I don't think I stumbled once I found your rhythm a single time, and that's a major feat for most authors to achieve.

The other thing I really liked about your poem was that it didn't express a person boxing in their emotions. Instead, you seemed to take them out of a small room and into the world (hence, "Under darkened skies above?"). That sends a different message than so many "love-lost, doomed-love" poems, so props to you.
