Dear BonnieA Poem by jen -- JGThis began as something totally different and became this ---------------------------
Dear Bonnie
I went to see Dear Bonnie today Consigned to a place so far away It takes a day and a half, for me to get there I know she’s beginning to think I don’t care.
Well dear old Bonnie, I’m now here with you We’re together all day, so what shall we do Here in the field, there is no riding tack So Bonnie, dear Bonnie, I’ll sit on your back.
Bonnie, dear Bonnie, I miss you a lot But just look around, see what you have got Plenty to drink from fresh water stream Lots of green grass, and a safe place to dream. Do I see a tear, in your eyes golden brown? Bonnie, Dear Bonnie, I’ve not let you down You have given me joy for twenty-two years. And my heart overflows with happiness tears.
You see dear Bonnie; we are reaching that age When it is almost the time to vacate life’s stage. But oh, how I wish we could fly once again; Wind in my hair, fingers tight in your mane. Over the hills and down through the dales Through crowded streets and on dusty trails We’ll eat when we can, at times we’ll sleep rough But we’ll be together, so there’s nothing too tough.
I remember a time when you saved my life A rattler had curled up next to my knife Your hooves came down, on its back and its head And you trammeled that snake -- until it was dead.
Let’s stay here together until end of day When dwindling sunset’s gleaming ray Will light the path we’ll ride together, And among the stars --- we’ll live forever
He went to see Dear Bonnie today And as sunset gently fades away His fingers tighten in Bonnie’s mane And they’re riding on the wind again
Warm nose nuzzles at his vest Bonnie’s head firm against his chest "Dear Bonnie" with last breath he sighed Then man and horse ------ together died
