my beef

my beef

A Poem by jen
"

some pondering on writing styles...and i decided that i am ground beef wanting to be filet... lol not a cue for compliments but a statement of fact... it's tasty but not considered haute cuisine.. :)

"

round, chuck or lean
pattied or loafed
a culinary chameleon
bending to the will of spices
accommodating all kinds of accessories
the knock around, bend to your will
meat
i am hamburger, i says to myself
poetically i yield to my environment
round steak, possibly,
and  in my most airy thoughts,
i am top sirloin
when i wander too far out of my zone
i overcook and am prone to a middle
that is much too raw
variety
in the background
blending with the spice
my beef,
my reflection
my only wish
is that my tendency to promote
heartburn
is less than
my bovine buddy

Rump steak - good when tenderised and placed close to the fire, a succulent mouthful, fully satisfying ...

Jenny - I found this both brilliant and humorous...and if I looked at myself - I'm much closer to...bologna...

I may be more baloney sandwich than hamburger . . . but a gal can dream.

I thoroughly enjoyed this poem. I think that those of us who are ground beef are well served to simply enjoy being what we are. Far too often poets put themselves on kabobs and eventually crumble and fall into the flame .... or we want to be fancy and jump into a quiche and that can get just plain ugly.

I guess if we insist on being fancy, we can always aspire to be Steak tartare.

Smiled the whole way through! Reflective of all of us, really... who we are... what we think of ourselves in comparison... Thank you for this write!

Make me think about how I've taken my Grade A loins off the meat market.

This is cute, and you made me smile (which I don't do often enough).

Thank you.
