Leaving Home

Leaving Home

A Poem by The Wolfman
"

I plan on joining the Air Force after I graduate and I thought about what It will be like leaving my family behind.

"
I made a promise to myself a long time ago
To risk my life for your freedom and die a hero
I take a deep breath and sign on the dotted line
Giving the military a life that used to be mine

We all know this time would come when I'd have to leave
But before I go I want you all to always believe
Before I get on this plane I want you all to know
How much I care about everyone because there may be no tomorrow

Dad, I know I was never perfect but I hope I make you proud
Because you were always my hero although I could never say that aloud
You were the one to always teach me right from wrong
Your the one who inspires me when I'm not strong

Mom, don't cry even though it's too late
The tears falling for your only son's unknown fate
I take her in my arms with a hug that could be our last
And when I let go I leave her nothing but the memories of my childhood's past

My friends, You always knew I was never good with goodbyes
Yall have always been there for me through my lows and highs
So thank you all for allowing me to call each of you a friend
If I never return I will cherish our these friendships til the end

As I walk up these stairs to board my plane
The sky cries for me, splashing me with rain
I walk through the door with out looking back at the people I'm leaving behind
Praying that if I never come back, through my sacrifice, peace is what they'll find.
