Alone

Alone

A Poem by Jeff Bresee
"

I wish it would have been a war...

"

I wish it would have been a war

that was the explanation for

the reason you are not around,

the reason I don’t hear the sound

of your voice anymore.

No, I don’t hear it anymore.

And I wish it were all a dream

although a bad one it would seem,

cuz then at least I’d have the chance

to open up my eyes and glance

upon your face, but I don’t see it.

No, not anymore.

And I wish there were reasons why

no chance was given for goodbye.

A day, a flash and you were gone.

Now lonely days roll on and on

where I don’t have you anymore.

No, nothing anymore.

So I wish something else were the

explanation given me

for why I’m left inside this empty home.

But I suppose there isn’t one.

It’s over and what’s done is done.

There’s nothing now. Yes… I am all alone.
