Goodbye

Goodbye

A Poem by Jeff Bresee
"

Goodbye my heart’s eternal love, speed swift unto the thrones above...

"

With tear filled eyes I’m left behind,

to walk in trance, still mystified.

The rays of setting sun shine through

as angel wings which carry you.

Goodbye my heart’s eternal love,

speed swift unto the thrones above

where shining cherubim await your grace.

And blessed be he who dwells on high

for granting that I could sit by

in our last moments to behold your face.

With trembling hand in trembling hand,

eyes fixed as the last grains of sand

slid through the hourglass of our true love.

And as they slid, a final kiss

“I love you” whispered, and “I’ll miss”,

then silence as the angels from above

took your hand, for I felt you leave.

But on your face a perfect peace -

the halo’s mark, a glow beyond compare.

And as I cried, and as I cried

soft came a whisper deep inside

which told me that soon I would meet you there.

I walk into the setting sun,

each ray to me has now become

your voice that beckons out to me,

“Live on my love and soon we’ll be

together, but til then my love… goodbye”.
