The Fairy PrincessA Poem by Paul GerardA princess has power way beyond what ayone imagined
Through the forest dark and thick,
Where fairy lights fly past so quick. And smallest creatures stalk by night, So timid lest they die of fright. No human being has been allowed, In forest dark and woodland proud. And Elvin Lords do keep it safe, In case the Demon Lord awakes. For in ages now long passed, When Demons roamed the Evergrass. And made the Fairies bid them owe, Whatever need of reap did sow. And whatever need or want they filled, From the Everwine did ever fill. Until the fairies tired from work, And did in protest jobs now shirk. Now made to pay by Demon Lords, In accordance with their masters laws. And them that banished not, Swiftest punishment now their lot. Until their numbers did decrease, And all hope of future breeding cease. For long the imprisonment by their Lords, In accordance with their masters laws. But as it happened once by chance, A virtuous fairy Princess danced. And pleased her Lords so very much, Convinced them to release and such. And so enamoured of her then, Without a thought unlocked the fence. Until all fairy prisoners none, Save the fairy Princess one. So when at last all now were safe, And back in Everwood embraced. The fairy Princess turned and said, “Now Demon Lords I wish you dead.” In shock did Demon Lords look on As with a whisper of her wand. The Princess waved and cast her spell, And sent the demons back to hell. © 2011 Paul Gerard |
