I spent the summer looking east

I spent the summer looking east

A Poem by Jecrisdesreves

I spent the summer looking east,

the adobe wall soaking in my desire.

I poured my blood on pieces of parchment.

Every inch of distance sunk into my bones.

I crossed off

the days

the nights

the minutes

until I found myself wrapped again in southern summers

lightning bugs

and lightning strikes across the humid sky.

The crack of electricity

a tingle down your spine.

You know you want me as much

as I want you.

Plans of flights

and fights

of sunsets and sunrises,

of movies, stars, breakfasts, swings,

music, car rides, holidays,

laughter, kisses, touches,

groans, gasps, fire, water, joy, ecstasy.

The sweet smell of your skin,

the taste of your jaw line,

your whispered words lightly warming my ear.

A summer as sudden and instantaneous as the lightning itself.

Burns on my fingertips.

Electricity stranded in my heart.

I still look east.

I still feel every inch.

My blood still pours onto paper,

my tears now soak into the adobe fortress.

The eastern sky ignites with lightning and fire,

rumbling thunder in the clouds.

Rock me, I cry.  Rock me until

the lightning ceases,

the clouds disperse,

and the summer chills to fall.

I adore this poem! Fantastic. It's ebbs and flows, peaks and valleys the repeat of phrase is so powerful. I will be back to read it again, and again and again. Your way with words is wondefull. I've been looking for a poem that I really could connect to here and I just found it!
