Forgive and Forget

Forgive and Forget

A Poem by Norma J. Jessee
"

Just a little ditty that popped into my head.

"

I admit I was wrong,

You don't have to shout.

I'm sure if we try;

We can work it all out.

There's nothing so wrong,

But what can't be made right.

Yet, we'll get nowhere fast,

As long as we fight.

So calm yourself down,

Stop throwing that fit,

Why can't you just learn;

To forgive and forget.

Forgive and Forget

We're not over yet.

But how much more

do you think I can take.

I'm willing to stay,

So don't make me pay,

Please won't you give

My heart a break.

So come to your senses,

And listen to me.

I said I was sorry;

So please let it be.

Don't dig up old bones,

Let sleeping dogs lie.

Come sit here beside me

Please don't make me cry.

And tell me why, honey,

You haven't learned yet.

That when you forgive;

You're supposed to forget.

Forgiving is easy, but forgetting is sometimes impossible and I say that because when bad things happen, it always takes us back to those things we have tried to forgive one for and then we remember the harm it did, so we don't forget, sometimes a lobotomy is needed in order to keep our sanity. Nice write Norma, good flow with the words.

Your words are so true and heartfelt. It would be a wonderfull world if we could forgive and forget - Sometimes the closest we can come to forgetting is to learn to accept that it is what is is and learn to live with it. The important thing is NOT to throw up past faults if it is forgiven - forgotten or not - let it go and grow stronger together.

Do I like your poem - Yes I do, very much because it relates so much to me as it does to many others.

Thank you for this.

Oh, Jean this is one of my very favorites of yours! I think its because the emotions that you express are those that I can relate to. Great job~ Jude xoxo

I can't even tell you how much this piece means to me right now. I am struggling so much with the forgetting part. Sometimes, it's hard to make myself let go ... and yet I expect people to forget when they've forgiven me, too. This lesson is something that ALL people need to know and I love the straightforward way you've addressed this. The rhyme and rhythm kept me reading to the last line and I heard the message loud and clear. The emotions that you addressed, as well, are something that need to be known ... how it makes someone feel when the past is brought up constantly and held against them.

This is one for my favorites!

Wise words indeed. Sometimes it is so hard to get from one level to another, but we must to grow and move on livin'.

That is a tall order for most especially due to the persistence of ego and painfulness that presides as a marshal law of sorts in our world today. I felt that this was between two lovers, one asking another to just move on and lover the other and discard the injuries and events of a possibly shaky past. The cord that it really struck with me was its possible meaning from one family member to another. My family fights quite a bit, just last night in fact and that scene played in my mind as I read this piece and it made my wish that we could just do this. Very nice write thank you very much for sharing.

forgiving is hard - but forgetting nearly impossible. It is so easy to drag up old hurts and betrayals in the midst of anger - so hard to relegate them to the graveyard. an excellent write about what should be but rarely is the case.
