River Of Darkness

River Of Darkness

A Poem by Norma J. Jessee
"

Written when I learned I had cancer. I was lucky they found it early. This was 25 years ago.

"

I see a river so deep and wide,

In it all heartaches and troubles abide,

All sorrows that are dark and drear;

Have found a resting place right here.

I see peace and contentment on the other side,

I pray to God, " Please be my guide,"

I yearn for life so pure and sweet;

Life so strong, death cannot defeat.

The river rages so dark and wild,

I feel just like a helpless child,

I know before me lies my fate;

I must cross, I must not wait.

So a bridge I''ll build across the span,

I know I can do it, I will and I can,

I'll build it strong, and I'll build it wide;

I know I must reach the other side.

With the will to live, this bridge I'll build,

I'll leave no dream unfullfilled,

I know if I stumble, slip or fall;

I'll drown in my sorrow, heartaches and all.

norma, I am firstly struck by the inspiration, the motive behind your words, and that learning
you became ill, how this passionate work of heart reflects your state of mind at the time,
i say brilliant because your words have an amazing impact upon the reader, the metaphorical
perspective about building the bridge and getting over turmoiling waters, and succeeding is
very heart touching, one can feel your sense of words alive, and in wonderment of knowledge
and overcoming, the stellar wording is convincing, the form encapsulating, excellent writing.
