Never Ever Sleep Again

Never Ever Sleep Again

A Poem by Jayne Disdaine

Blurry eyes but sharpened mind,

Uncoordinated digits,

Each dropping some important find,

For some irresponsible religion.

To which blind faith are you resigned?

Where lies your eyeless allegiance?

What truth has stuck with you once you

Pinprick your path of least resistance?

A shallow, fruitless, fake existence.

Enthusiasm without realism seems

A dangerous, wandering road.

Like a return to hypnotic fading dreams,

Kinda familiar, but this time with a heavier load.

This time Bliss ends with a scream,

Treasure turns to glitzy fools’ gold.

Treason essentially part of the scheme

That denies your needs and alters your goals

And places us into our pre-determined moulds.

Human beings need sleep right?

Not me, not you, though the mind slaves are sold

On the idea of a restful silent night "

But fractured words of mine unfold

Best in the darkness, they shatter on light,

Heavy with a truth not to be told.

Emotive pictures I will not deny

Or erase with false confidence unduly bestowed.

My thoughts are still my own.

I’m a sorry cynic, not a boring mimic.

Not quite manic, just a little too wired.

At the point where conspiracies are comic

As faulty, as common, as a reality tired.

I seem alien to you and to them, and I know it,

Repetitive atoms replaceable no longer required.

But Id sooner have rights than be right, with approval automatic "

I’ll take my integrity over spoon-fed admirers

Who think and care little about what their ignorance sires.

Never will I sleep again.

I will not lay by idle

Whilst fantastic theories remain

Prisons for minds in denial.
