Candlelit LoveA Poem by Riley BrayDate Unknown
Today I realized
That we weren't meant for forever A time will not come To revive a flame That so far has yet to burn out I still hope that it never will But our candle is not infinite So I occupy my mind With thoughts of how the end will come Will I see it coming Or will it wait until I look away To engulf me? That question is not one I can answer Let me tell you what it means To have something that cannot Or rather, simply will not, last It is a hollow agony One that forces you to stare intently at it And curl your fingers around its open flame It is a dangerous, passionate thing A wild, tender thing Love is something not constructed to disappear But sometimes love and fear Or love and new love Or love and bad timing Gets in the way It can be deterred But not forever This forces me to wonder If forever even exists If it is something I will ever know What I do know Is that Ive fallen for a flame One that glows like the stars And warms me as the sun warms others
