Self-Efficacy

Self-Efficacy

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

"
Children are to be encouraged
But creativity is a costly thing
They say self-efficacy is important
But they do not like my way of speaking
Literal meaning is not a territory
I dare to toy with
Because instead I teach the words to dance for me
To music I have composed and only I can hear
I deal with the metaphors and similes
To weave a literary masterpiece
With that I know I am skilled
My stories breathe and my poems stab
My essays speak and my theses grab

My pen knows what it is doing
I know what I am doing

Do not tell me that my way is wrong
Just because it is different
I know my writing patterns can be odd
But do not ask me to change it
I will no give up the voice in my writing
You cannot force someone to kill
That which they've breathed life into
Adults make murderers of childrens minds
By squashing the creativity they were supposed to encourage
Every time I feel my voice growing quieter
The music has become harder to hear
And I strain to find my words
Children are to -be encouraged

...But they never are
