Halogen

Halogen

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

1/30/15

"
I'm a bomb
Whose fuse is frequently lit
I swear there's a soft tick
If you listen
But then
No one ever hears it

I feel the vibrations
As my body gets strung higher
Hands shaking, lip bitten, eyes darting
I smell the sulfur
And then I explode

I'm shot this way and that
Through a wreckage
Large enough to dominate a continent
Wires electrifying each other
With cruel fixation

It's been years yet still
I am a victim
Still I suffer
And thus I fear

Long lost forces appear
In the back of my brain
And the corpses of dead comrades
Lay strewn in my wake

Why must I massacre those
Most loved by me?
The first negative thought comes
And once again
The timer resets
