A Woman's Desire

A Woman's Desire

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

"
A woman's desire
Is a cave at nighttime
Vast and cruel and strong

It is the luminous silkworms
Hanging from the ceilings and the walls
That drip water
Like a woman's desire drips love.

A woman's desire
Is an oasis at daybreak
Warm and protective and intense

It is the blazing fireflies
That surround a stream
That flows precisely
As a woman's desire flows.

A woman's desire holds its breath
As it soaks in the object of its infatuation
And, like a man's desire,
It sighs with every injection
Of its elusive drug.
