It Still Goes On

It Still Goes On

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

~~~
"
She'll go down
In secrecy
Not to be seen
Not to be touched
Not to be spoken about
And she'll never be thought about.
One, two, three years
And she's gone.
He'll run away
In fear and in fury
He wasn't loved
He wasn't noticed
He wasn't worth it
And he'll never be missed.
One, two, three months
And he's gone.
They'll stow away
Heartbeat pounding
They won't be followed
They won't be wanted
They won't be questioned
And they'll never be chained again.
One, two, three weeks
And they're gone.
I'll hide somewhere
Timid thoughts cutting thick silence
I haven't been free
I haven't been brave
I haven't been decisive
And I'll never be worried about.
One, two, three times
And I'm gone.
She was strong.
He was strong.
They were strong.
So must I be strong...
As we reach for the stars,
Dying one by one,
I come to the realization
That time will still go on.
History does leave a stunning many of us behind as it progresses onwards, only remembering the names of the luckiest and the most ruthless, merciless leaders, and that's the truth of it. There's no changing it, and I like the way you present it, a silent fear and a whisper, a succumbing to how things are and a willingness to set the wheel back in motion of the cycle of history with a sad undertone.
Makes me think a little, the best thing we can do for the dead is remember them . . . To honor them, when nobody else will. Well done.
