It Still Goes On
A Poem by Riley Bray
~~~
She'll go down In secrecy Not to be seen Not to be touched Not to be spoken about And she'll never be thought about.
One, two, three years And she's gone.
He'll run away In fear and in fury He wasn't loved He wasn't noticed He wasn't worth it And he'll never be missed.
One, two, three months And he's gone.
They'll stow away Heartbeat pounding They won't be followed They won't be wanted They won't be questioned And they'll never be chained again.
One, two, three weeks And they're gone.
I'll hide somewhere Timid thoughts cutting thick silence I haven't been free I haven't been brave I haven't been decisive And I'll never be worried about.
One, two, three times And I'm gone.
She was strong. He was strong. They were strong. So must I be strong...
As we reach for the stars, Dying one by one, I come to the realization That time will still go on.
History does leave a stunning many of us behind as it progresses onwards, only remembering the names of the luckiest and the most ruthless, merciless leaders, and that's the truth of it. There's no changing it, and I like the way you present it, a silent fear and a whisper, a succumbing to how things are and a willingness to set the wheel back in motion of the cycle of history with a sad undertone.
Makes me think a little, the best thing we can do for the dead is remember them . . . To honor them, when nobody else will. Well done.
I feel that's why I want to be a successful writer as badly as I do, I want to die known so that my name and life won't just eventually cease to exist, getting watered down as names do as generations pass. (Especially looking at what OUR generation has become, I doubt further ones will care much about dead relatives). The thought works generally though, too, especially when applied to those that gave their lives to their country, any and every one, and even more generally to fit this race of ours as a whole. Thank you for the review. ^-^
There's always going to be tidbits of us floating around for people to find.
Perhaps I should try and think more like you, haha. As long as writerscafe stands our poetry, at least, will exist. Perhaps once we're dead our poetry will gain interest? Like Picasso and Da Vinci. Ah well, time will tell.
Any and everyone's life work becomes more valuable post-death. From unique glasswork to poems to novels to paintings, it does tend to be true, at least to my understanding.
That arts just aren't recognized or appreciated as much as they should be, leaving many talented people to die in the dust. Only long after they're gone does anyone really start to care about the things they wrote/made, which is rather sad haha.
Jollier then than having never been recognized at all.
