Escapade

Escapade

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

~~~
"
Maybe I don't want to sit all proper
"Like a lady should"
Because if boys can do it
So can I
I'll not be told what I can and can't sit like.
Maybe I don't want to put on make up
To cover my "imperfections"
Because I am no barbie doll
I'm myself
I'll not be told what I can and can't look like.
Maybe I don't want to giggle like I'm innocent
Like a "girl" should
Because that isn't me
I'm mine
I'll not be told what I can and can't sound like.
You don't have control over me
Or my body, or my being.
Your power does not reach far enough
To clasp my will,
And never shall.
Because I'm the queen here
Of this kingdom,
One who speaks for equality religiously.
Because you can't tell me
How I can and can't be.
I love this and the message it evokes. I agree with you wholeheartedly on that and I'm glad you are strong enough to ensure that for yourself because so many girls aren't! I like the structure of your poem and the underlining gave more impact. Great write!
