Starry Eyes

Starry Eyes

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

Innocence is delicate.

"
Do not dream unprotected
To be perverted and subject to reflection.
You are the purity of innocence.
You are the freedom that is limitless.
You are the faith that ties all bonds
You are the dreaming vagabond.
But when you awaken to a bitter taste
That hopefulness will be disgraced
By us other failed meant-to-be's
Since then there is no comfort left to seek.
The starlight will cease to shine
And poisoned truths you shall then find.
Do not dream of woeful skies
Since you are finite, Starry Eyes.

I see this as both personifying innocence and speaking to a person with it that's tottering on the line, about to lose it. Tell me what you think. :)

I love it. The essence of innocence surely lingers and every word is powerful and well-placed.

Thanks for the review! So glad you liked it!
Starry Eyes as a metaphor for dreaming, I quite adore this poem. It's so unfortunate that our dreams are our refuge, and being yanked into reality is fearful for many, but even more so when our dreams become nightmares and our realities become worse. I can relate.
