Wishing Well

Wishing Well

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

If its you, I'll be an angel.

"
I remember that I saw a child
Clinging to his tired brother
With eyes glittering like the brightest of stars
As he pointed out a little pond.

He was paid no attention
As he dipped in his little fingers
And soon his little toes
With his smile radiating in his reflection.

Too much curiosity brought him right in
And before I knew it I was right beside him
With his sibling stunned nearby
As the little boy I kept from drowning laughed at his misfortune.

"Its a wishing well,"
He did say as he let me carry him from the water,
"A place where hopes are always granted,
Where I met my angel."

That was his wish you see,
The little boy with incurable cancer
Who wanted to meet his angel before he died
So he could show his brother he would be in good hands.

So by the two I was welcomed
And allowed into his hospital by the nickname Tenshi
To visit him each and every day
Until I took him to heaven.

He believed every word I spoke of the place
That even I am afraid to go
And when he died
I was there, holding his hand, as he said I would be.

His wishing well
I wish the best
Because the magic
Isn't gone, just yet.

The fact Tenshi is Japanese for angel really directed me towards the right path. It took me four days of constant rereading, but I've finally surmounted my baffled curiosity and formulated a meaning.
Could this mean that, by chance, the little boy met a companion at the wishing well because he'd fallen in and he was saved by the stranger? To which the stranger heard out the little boy's wish and feels a certain need to fulfill his wish, and serve the boy's brother in an attempt to cushion the blow of death..
I must say, this particular poem nearly drove me to insanity trying to figure out a meaning, and when I did: it made me shiver. Favorited.

I really liked how you played the story out. The last stanza was my absolute favorite. Let's hope that his magic isn't gone..

You made me uncomfortable! This was an outburst of emotion in such effective manner that it let the emotional river pass through my chest, and that happens very rarely! Excellent.

Some noticeable error, that I may point out: -

"No attention was he paid"
Grammatical error. You know it better!
