Its Never Nothing

Its Never Nothing

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

Don't treat me as if I can't see with these eyes, because I can...And I see you.

"
Here's to you,
My friend with the fake Cheshire grin
Spreading across the mask upon your face
As you deny your troubles.

It must be difficult,
Or so I think,
Pretending constantly and hoping
No one will see.

Honestly though,
There's a few cracks in your facade,
Well more like miniature holes,
Really.

Because I think
You weren't expecting me
To crawl between those accidents
And begin to understand.

Though I'm glad you made those mistakes
Because I finally get to see you
Underneath your suit of armor
That stinks of untruth.

But I have to acknowledge
The effort you must have used up
When you chose to tell those 'little white lies'
And condemned yourself to crying alone and in silence.

So cheers,
My friend
I hope you're happy,
Really, I do

But when one day you realize
You are nothing without someone
I intend to poke my head out of the cracks you don't notice
And pull your pain apart.

I will smile when you ask me
Nod, and wink and say
That I will always be there
As long as its okay.

I feel like I live in Nanny McPhee
Always reiterating,
"When you need me, but do not want me, I must stay.
And when you want me, but do not need me, I must go."

So here's a secret my friend,
I'm on to you, I see you
That mask isn't going to work on me,
And I know that its never nothing.
