A Walk Along Main StreetA Poem by Joshua McNayThe search for inspiration lead me on a journey. Brief but fun, enjoy!I started the year with the goal of being published. My work however became complete rubbish. Poems fell flat after a line or two, To be quite honest, I wasn't sure what to do. The more I wrote, the more annoyed I'd get. Had I hit my peak? There's no way! Not yet. But my rhymes which used to come out naturally, Were all of a sudden completely foreign to me. I'd try and write about a little red fox, but staring at a blank page, was it writer's block? The ideas were there, but the words were absent. The blinking line to type, I grew to lament. Ever mocking me with a blink, blink, blink. I got so frustrated it was hard to think. Maybe fresh air was needed I thought, Get out and clear my head, it was a worth a shot. So I grabbed my coat and walked toward Main Street. It was still cold outside, Ice would crack beneath my feet. The place I live doesn't get much snow, It does fall here and there but mostly for show. The crunch of salt as I'd pass by shops, Seeing steam waft from the busy bus stop. My little town is quite a sight. The main road is ever festive, especially at night. Quaint little shops offering this and that, It may be Colorado but they don't sell that! As I walk I'm reminded how pretty the town is. A great place to raise your kids. Haha I'm not there yet, I was just saying. My girlfriend may see, y'all better stop playin'. Anyway...back to my walk. Sorry I get distracted when I talk. I went out in search of inspiration, Something to light a fire, kick start my motivation. I found while walking in my little town, Something fun and worth writing down. Will this win a Pulitzer, or some fancy award? Not likely, but hey I'm no longer bored. Thanks for taking this time with me, It has really bolstered my creativity. I need to write more that much is true. If you'll excuse me, I've got some work to do. © 2017 Joshua McNayAuthor's Note
