Rhyme Factory

Rhyme Factory

A Poem by Joshua McNay
"

I like to rhyme in my poems, sometimes to a damning fault.

"
I'd like to welcome you to my rhyme factory,
Where I craft the new verses for my poetry.
It started with a love for a man name Seuss,
Not finding a rhyme feels like I need a noose.
If my works don't rhyme, it feels weird to me,
A strain on my mind that can be hard to see.
I know poems don't need to rhyme,
No rhymes feels like sound coming from a mime.
It's just, it's what I know poems to be,
One fish, Two fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, that's how it needs to be.
Sometimes I work so hard to find that rhythm, that flow,
I've heard it described as held hostage, but they don't really know.
I need to rhyme, and for that I look to the factory,
producing rhymes just works for me.
I put so much effort, to make it work,
but when a rhyme comes to me I always smirk.
Trying to craft lines that makes sense can be tough,
Hearing people say I force it, at times is rough.
I do my best to not hear their voices,
I can't help but reflect on my poetic choices.
My phone's notepad is a testament to my factory,
It's where I write the random rhymes that comes to me.
More often than not they have no real place,
But the ability to record them, is a real saving grace.
I find a spot in my future poems,
When I have a good rhyme, I can hardly wait to show them.
Sometimes it fits where I least expect,
Every rhyme finds a home, there are none I neglect.
So with a full head of steam, my factory will churn
As long as I write, my need to rhyme continues to burn.
With the coal of all my similar sounding words,
Keeping the fire stoked, non rhyming poems are for the birds.
But I digress, and I will leave you with this thought,
My poems will rhyme, whether you understand why or not.

Well, I love this poem, and I appreciate your need to rhyme because I'm the same way. A rhyming poem, especially when it has good meter and rhythm, is a joy to read. I, too, am a fan of Dr. Seuss. It's a pleasure meeting you, I'm Karen. :)

No problem, my pleasure
That's almost seemed like a real n***a touch. Spoken with flow. Well thrashed with the fire of words. Deep meaning. Fluent rhyme. And certainly, a better composition of words. Kinda enjoyed reading your words. You seem to got much to speak of this universe esp. about your life that longs to get heard. Interesting! Looking forward to reading your work!

Good fun! I do like rhyming myself and enjoy writing limericks and rhyming verse. For some reason I think rhyming works and flows better when there is a strict metre. However i would be the last to say that there are any rules in writing - just a blank sheet of paper! I've noticed in WC that forcing a rhyme where it lacks meaning can spoil the work.
I enjoyed your piece.
Maybe you would like to look at my limericks!
Thanks
Alan

I love rhyming poetry,as I feel it imposes a discipline of language. It is so easy to let "stream of consciousness" words become rambling. When used in fun , the bounce and rhythm increase the sense of humour, as your poem has shown, without losing the "message."
I leave prose to those who don't find rhyme sublime.:-)

This is a fun read, Joshua. Its not easy to kick the rhyming habit. What's the point of line breaks without them... Haha
