A Poem By DefinitionA Poem by Joshua McNayOk well not technically by definition, but since I am writing about the dictionary it in my eyes fits. Just a little thing for fun.I'd like to tell you of my favorite book, It's one that is easy to over look. No, its not some revolutionary novel, It won't bring you to your knees, or make you grovel. This book is seemingly ordinary, My favorite book...is the dictionary! Expanding an already impressive vocabulary, Dropping rhymes so smooth, it's a little bit scary. So sit down and rest a spell, You're in luck, I've something of a story to tell. Think where we would be without this book, Here are some examples, let's take a look. Would people have liked The Catcher in the Rye, If they didn't understand the words inside? Think of To Kill a Mockingbird, If you couldn't look up those new words. Like a best man, Webster's dictionary defines... Ok I admit that is a cheesy line. But the power to learn what our words mean, Was decidedly hard before the dictionary hit the scene. The definition and Is that word a verb or a noun, Can immediately turn my frown upside down. The dictionary isn't fancy, it doesn't put on a show, But it does help with the more you know.
