Four Years GoneA Poem by Joshua David DaryA song I wrote a few years ago--Sort of a "don't drink and drive" kinda vibe.Verse: 4 years ago A boy walking home Crossed when the light turned green He didnt know A truck was out of control He didn't have time to scream Bridge: And all this time, he hasnt opened his eyes He needed help, to breathe And the doctor said, To the mother Chorus: Four years gone He's been all alone He can't feel you holding his hand Never again, Could he be the the same Wont even remember his name In just those mere seconds, Your boy was destroyed Replaced by this shell, of a man He missed all this time, He can't even cry Everything that he missed Is four years gone Verse: You've heard it many times "Life is too short" My friend you'd better take that to heart 'Cause what happened that day Changed his life forever All within mere seconds Bridge: He got worse and worse, every single day He was inches away, from death That's when the divine voice, Asked the little boy.... Chorus: Four years gone Have you had a good run? Think about all that you missed. It's up to you, What do you want to do? Will you go to the light, or live? After all this time, Taste the sweet divine, Or make the choice, to live Four years gone? Bridge: Little boy was still pondering, What the divine had said When the door to his room, Swung wide open. At the foot of the bed, was a teary-eyed man, who took a breath, and said.... Chorus/Bridge: Four years gone It's all my fault, What have I done to you? I cost you a lot, Four years of your life Gone, just like that. I was drinking and driving, Couldn't tell right from wrong, But, I know, never again Little did he know, The little boy stirred, and said.... Four years gone You are forgiven I know that we all make mistakes Please stop your crying, I've made my decision, I will be just fine..... Ending: And both of their lives were changed In that four years time The driver saw his mistake.... As for the boy He lives with the drive Where they can live happily.... © 2013 Joshua David Dary |
