My PrideA Poem by Jayden IretonToday is the
day I have kept
it in for so long I fear
reactions to who I am They do not
have knowledge of who we are Hold my hand
as we hit them with the news A family
dinner is the place we will tell
them while they are stuffing their face, this way they
are unable to make quick insults. Hold my hand
darling as we speak, I am weak in
the knees. Eating a
turkey dinner I can’t even taste the food. Sweat is
pouring down my face preparing for abuse. I stand up
she does too. She holds my hand Everyone looks
confused. Mom, Dad we
are gay. I can smell
the hatred putrid as can be, The screaming
has started but all I see is her All I feel is
her. The abuse
crashing in waves has no effect on this rock shore. We watch as
my picture is torn off the wall. Never come
back here ever you QUEERS. I feel the
tears, I taste the salt. I turn away
with her hand in mine, We walk away,
it’s a time for change. © 2013 Jayden Ireton |
