Christmas Tradition

Christmas Tradition

A Poem by Jayden Ireton

Sugar plums, candy canes, fruit cakes cooking
A Christmas story on the television
A fire dancing on the logs in the fireplace
Decadent smells and sights of Christmas joy
Families smiling to each other one time out of the year
Christmas spirit all around

Presents, trees, stockings
The fruit of our capitalist tree
Praises to a nativity scene
Christmas carols, Christmas cards, Christmas sweaters
All is beautiful in the homes
The greatest present Christmas brings is peace

Peace among families that argue everyday but today
Peace from work where they grind you to the bone
Peace from a society that doesn’t stop any day but today

Only once a year all is well
What a sad society

I've never celebrated Christmas personally only when I visit my extended family. It's sad what you say is true. I suppose it would be naive to wish for this all the time. Anyways, great work, the flow of this was amazing!
