My Vow

My Vow

A Poem by Jessica Dallaire

"

His name rings in my ear like a sweet lullaby

And when I see his face it leaves me breathless

But when his eyes fall upon me

My heart skips a beat

When his hand is in mine

There is a certain electricity

I know it well enough

To feel it when he is not with me.

I love him till death do us part

Even though formally

I have not yet taken that vow.

It seems odd to be sixteen

And thinking like this now.

I know that him and I are meant

And I know that my feelings

Will never change.

Some may say it is infatuation

Or maybe just some silly game.

I say they’re wrong

As I love him more than anything.

I hope that he knows this

Because what I say is what I mean.
