I'm Not

I'm Not

A Poem by J

I could memorize every one of your features
The size of your hands,
The symmetry of your face,
All the geometric aspects of your existence.
But I won't, because I'm not good at math.

I could give you all my thoughts.
Every story my mind conjures,
Every theory and wonder I have,
Each syllable my mouth could ever construct.
But I won't, because I never really had a way with words.

I could be your confidant,
Carry all the burdens you bear,
Every worry you have, every problem you've faced,
And I'd hold each as if they were my own.
But I won't, because I wasn't ever very strong.

I could give you every piece of me,
All my good, and all my bad.
I could give you my life without a second thought,
But I won't, because no matter how much I can give you,
You will never be mine.
