The Man

The Man

A Poem by Jennifer Lenhardt

oh, when will you come down out of your orbit
and stop encircling me?
put away your toothbrush
come down here
on this bed
kiss me
when will you stop standing in the side wings?
come down here
that we may play our respective parts
here in this Shakespearean play
Is this a comedy?
you the man
and I the woman
who opens herself up
to you?
the A*s?
pursue me
to the point of death
Is this a tragedy?
I will not derail you
put away your mask
stand beneath my window and deliver the words
that you fear will take your heart,
your soul
I will not crush you
I will not leave you
with no choice but to pierce
your own flesh
I will not drink of the vile and take
my own life
but instead, I give it to you
stop encircling me
come down here
out of your orbit
and come
and play
the man

Ha ha..dont be mad ..but Juliette would not act that way
she would never admonish him,Romeo..not even think
she would never tell him to come down off your high horse
would not mock him as to come to her windows to sing in moon hight
she would love it ,but not to degrade him
i know some men must be like jerks
but there are lots Romeos, and lots Juliettes
who would love to drink the poison
and finish it all just to please him and her even in her death
i truly believe in such fantasies..wish the world
was all like that ,all love and sacrifice
no mocking,he would die for her ,would never orbit away
she will always be his whole life, even if she never believed
ha ha ,excuse the remarks that dont go with the thoughts
i am just kind of dreamy..i will get hurt and not see others the like
lovely write

I've heard this song before... may have sung it myself a few times.

A Romeo and Juliet with some balls in a way that only Lionheart can do it.

I saw the orbit as a way of saying two things:
One, the height he THINKS he is at is a little too much for who the f**k he is and needs to join the rest of the people who actually see you as a person.
Or, stop day dreaming and come here and knock the damn boots.

Be the opposite in my life, Don't fear, no threats, let's give this a shot because, fuckitall, it will work if we take a Shakespearean crack at it.

Nice work, as always
