Invisible Monsters

Invisible Monsters

A Poem by Joshua J. Certain

She says If I can't be beautiful I want to be invisible

Lovely girl retiring into her skin

Once surrounded in a world of super models

Now seeing the invisible monsters

She don't know who to hate so she begans to hate herself

Paint the face with all the new products on sale

She is becoming a monster of fashion retail

She wants a make over

She needs a makeover

"This makeover

would make piercing and tattoos and brandings look so lame,

all those little fashion revolts

so safe that they themselves only become fashionable.

Those little paper tiger attempts to reject looking good

that only end up reinforcing it."

She tears apart pices over her face

Shotgun to go away

Just blows away the side skin

Covered in burn scars

She is the monster

The monster she never wanted to be

Crippled by scars of beauty

Is this what a women is suppose to look like?

The Magazine lie

Of a perfect inperfection

The magzine lie

Hiding the scaple marks

Tear away the bone muscle and ligament

See what is meant to be seen

An inner beauty

Money can't buy personality

But lets just pay no mind

And listen to the media lie

"She says If I can't be beautiful I want to be invisible" I like the strength in this line...it really is a powerful way to begin a piece...it's captivates my attention and also says so much about the persona. I like strong beginnings...this definitely was one.

The message too was current and valid- what's on the inside is what matters. (Sorry if i'm repeating another review:)). Nicely written my friend!

This was a very good write. All women can feel like they aren't pretty enough for the person they care for. They always worry about being beautiful outside, but really matters is whats inside. I can totally relate to this poem though. Nice imagery and well written. You did a really nice job on this write. Thanks for sharing. :D

This is also one of my favorite books. I'm a big Palahniuk fan. This was a great piece based on the novel. I noticed a number of spelling and grammar mistakes, though, so watch out for those. Otherwise, this was wonderful.

You have written so well how the magazines, media play such a part in how people, mostly females, look at themselves. Not everyone can have flawless skin, be thin- and who wants to look like everyone else? Seems very many as your poem points out - it seems a sad no win situation.
Well told.
