StrengthsA Poem by John the BaptistA meditation on priorities
There is a strength of
The body, As of mighty limbs That yield to neither Iron nor steel, But which retreats with The fleeting of the years, Like wheat before the Reaper. There is a strength of The will, That may stare down The devil in a last ditch, But which withers with The tedium of the days. Spirit yields not to iron Nor steel, And neither do the years Dismay it. It fears not evil, finds Beauty in the drab and Unchanging. Spirit is the only true Strength, For it abides in light And shadow, And faces the night Unflinching, Knowing nothing can Harm it, Neither here nor there.
