MEADOW INTERLUDE

MEADOW INTERLUDE

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter

MEADOW INTERLUDE

across flower strewn meadows
the lark song ripples
and the grasses reach hungry for the sun
a family of quail dart from flower shadow
to tuft of green
topknots bouncing in hurried rhythm
there
beneath a gnarled oak
the lovers embrace
on a worn picnic quilt
spread carefully for an afternoon delight
wine and repast forgotten
in an eternal dance
of fingers stroking velvet skin
drawing forth
sighs and giggles of pleasure expanding
and a new life strives to become
an island in the stream of life...
