BLESSING EVENING MEALS

BLESSING EVENING MEALS

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter

BLESSING EVENING MEALS

evening rain beats a soothing rhythm on the deck,
my daughter and i sit sipping cabernet sauvignon under the gazebo,
drawing in the crisp scent of redwood, cedar and cypress
drifting on the breeze through the fairy grove behind our home
adding a natural peace to the rich sharp taste five year old cheddar
and the crunch of crusty sour dough...
from the garden pond
tree frogs have begun their evening song
with a raindrop beat
as a bat slips past in silent search for his blue hour meal,
not troubled by our presence
so quiet he does not disturb the dogs
 patiently waiting for the tidbits
they know we will share,
we are at peace and we offer a prayer of thanks
just a simple wish that our peace will extend out
to blanket and protect all creatures living on this earth...
with a simple salute we toast all things living,
blessed be to all of thee...

You had me wishing I was there enjoying what I call the kiss of poetry flying through the air.

Regards,

A deliciously descriptive piece. It made me be the voyeur of your endearing conversation. Emotionally charged, and leaves the reader with a serene feeling at the end. :D
