GONE FISHIN’ (thanks porcupine and walt kelly)

GONE FISHIN’ (thanks porcupine and walt kelly)

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter

GONE FISHIN’ (thanks porcupine and walt kelly)

golden hues from magenta to turquoise

watercolor wash the blue hour sky

i have been here leanin’ on this old swamp cypress

since the cranberry wash of dawn

with my basket of goodies

right close,

comfortable,

my bottle of burgandy, chunk of sharp cheddar

and crisp crust sour dough loaf

peacefully consumed

while hopefully

watchin’ the red n white bob a floatin’...

i know they’re down there

just under the rippling surface,

but...

i’ve caught no fish for dinner

they just keep bouncin’ the bob

and giggling bubbles at me

and

as night drifts in

i ponder...

“what they doin down there?”

jeannemarie, I recognize that comic strip from when I was young (I see the signature 1968 Walt Kelly) but can't recall the name...doggone it, it's on the tip of my tongue. Your poetry, which I am so glad you send to me for review, is so unique...your style is unmistakably jeannemarie coulter, I could pick one out of a lineup. Your writing style is, to use a phrase from when I was very young, "back home." And I thank you immensely for keeping me in the loop. take care...dan

i have pondered the same question many times, but it`s the quietness
and the serenity of the trip that stands out,you have painted a lovely day here..

Heck if I had a bottle of wine with me, I'd be giggling, and wouldn't care about the fish. Very cute poem.
My grandparents had a Churchy LaFemme Turtle mug. My grandfather called him a toe bug. I never had my shoes on so he'd tell me "that toe bugs gonna get your toes if you don't wear shoes." My precocious three year old self would tell him thete was no such thing. So he produced the Walt Kelly turtle mug. Churchy did not look like a turtle my brothers caught, so I believed him, and my toe bug mug was the only glass I'd drink from..lol
Thanks for Pogo to refresh that memory.

Lol, delightful! I wonder that too sometimes!
I have to say, you pack a better picnic than I do!
