GARVY THE DREAMER

GARVY THE DREAMER

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter
"

about shades of difference and music

"

GARVY THE DREAMER
in the soft amber evening,
on a far away alien world,
a girl with copper wire curl bristle hair
sits waiting...
fingering the long alien metal tube
she found
while exploring a cave
in the cliff beyond the forest
north of the settlement...

it’s useless,
the elders had decided,
you never find anything worthwhile,
you waste our time
with this silliness,
what use is a pipe so long with holes
in the surface
and such a narrow flat tapered end,
laughter...
always the cruel laughter

always...
so...
in the fading of the blue hour,
wrapped in her lonely sorrow,
garvy, the strange one,
the one with copper wire springs for hair
garvy, the oddball,
the inscrutable dreamer cried,
garvy cried,

and then...
weeping,
she played out her sorrow
in an exquisite pristine song,
she played her tears
to the ears
and soul of the universe alone...

she played
a priceless song of forever,
played on an alien flute
too long to caress with her fingers...

yet she played...

garvy wept out her song
on the alien flute...
a gift left for dreamers
by the long gone and forgotten race,

weeping,
garvy played the alien flute
with her feet...

A interesting tale my friend. I like the visions and places your words took me. I liked the characters and the ending.

You depicted perfectly how is it usually the greatest dreamers that are put down the most. No one will believe them until they're in the spot light and all the people of shamed them are still living their dull boring lives. Being a dreamer is hard because your usually on your own. A really good poem here :)

jeannemarie, First of all I believe that gravy's (with her copper wire curl bristle hair) character represents you (you've mentioned your red hair) and the flute and her subsequent playing of flute to make the pain go away. She sees and remembers a better time, a time that moved a bit slower...some good times. Having to play with her feet represents physical obstacles gravy has had to overcome. This is really exceptional and it's going into my library also. I'm calling you 'butter' because you're on a roll. Great writing! take care...dan

I enjoyed this one as I tried to think ahead as to where you were taking your readers, I never would have guessed playing with the feet.

nice twist to the story...like "a stranger in a strange land" yet in this humans are the aliens to them"

and we are all gone..just relics and artifacts left"
an interesting perspective....as have all your writes.
