SHADED BY DIFFERENCE

SHADED BY DIFFERENCE

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter
"

the beginning of a poetic science fiction tale about a girl named garvy, who was born in space

"

SHADED BY DIFFERENCE
silentshadowstreaming through frozenblack space
during the annual celebration of the ides of march,
in a psycotropic drug induced empathic state,
kathra, the ship's beautiful courtesan,
coupled with the kinky haired communications tech,
in the furcozy warm storage room
under the fuselage on the aft side of the colony starship
bound for garvis’s ',
a promising bluegreen earthlike planet
out on the edge of the rim
 many light-years from mother earth,

eight months later,
softspinning through hyper-space
in an alien euphoric mind over body melding warp,
caused by an over-curious invisible telepathic energy form
from space beyond the rim,
kathra shoved her unplanned infant out,
and into
the clickingwhirlturning grasp of a starship robot medic,
kathra,sighing, took one weary look,
and
whispering sadly, " the first garvis child,"
before softdrifting away into the dark forever of bone weary death
for reasons unknown...
 the overworked medic tech
entered the stats into the on board medical record...

born November 21, 2082
1 female child
with spiky carmine curls
and amber eyes
tagged garvy child
mother deceased, father unknown,

making no note
of the opposable toes,
or the unearthly wisdom,
in the countenance of the newborn babe,
she thrust the tiny living parcel
quickly into the care
of the robot medics and promptly forgot
about the baby,
the birth,
the death...

they are there and more coming...the garvy tales...thank you for reading them...
You have accomplished what is nearly impossible....

Making the infiniteness of space seem tangible.

Well penned.

Indeed...the science fiction of the past will always become the reality of tomorrow.

To have the ability to write credibly about the mysteries of space, especially in the distant future, takes a huge dose of creativity and imagination that not many people possess. You say there is more to follow? Well, I'm up for more, a real life Star Trek being born! Very nicely done! take care...dan

A very nice introduction. You create place, situation and you left the reader wanting more story. I hope to read more dear Poet. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

this is like Extant meets Poe meets ee cummings...

quite the star crossed journey , where many poets have tried to go before, but not with the skills you display here....very cool poem...you engaged me, and i am not a sci-fi fan...
