DEALING IN DEATH

DEALING IN DEATH

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter
"

about the progress of man

"

DEALING IN DEATH
is “ the nature of the beast”...roger waters

in progressive
specious reasoning
marching forward
rocks, sharpened sticks, stone tipped spears
trading what we kill with,
what we create from what we kill
for the softer bed
the warmer cave...

striding onward
club, spiked bludgeon, flail
selling what we kill with,
what we have created from the kill
for a larger softer bed
a warmer dwelling
with separate spaces...

blundering onward
bows and arrows, guns and bullets
dealing our killing skills
for a warmer softer bed
in a larger domicile
with more amenities...

with careless
specious reasoning
progressing to
automatic guns, bombs, smart missiles
shared and traded
for the hidden dry cave
and blankets of rags
our ancestors left centuries ago...

Powerful use of words. Reminded me of the myths of old. War and struggle never-ending. I like the strong description. Create visions of destruction and carelessness. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poem dear Poet.

yes, from the time of that first blow with a weapon, humans have found new ways of killing one another...but we still kill for the same reasons and unfortunately, we will continue to do so...

Like so many things in this world, life seems to circle back. Progress stunted by the greed and arrogance of man. Perhaps peace is an elusive concept that is just beyond our nature a a whole.

War may have changed costumes and weapons over the centuries but the killing of innocents (collateral damage) is the one constant. Very interesting how you led up seemingly from the Crusades to ISIS. Very well done indeed! take care...dan

yes, sad isn't it...
I like the imagery. Nice circle of progressive history from beginning to end. This message is something I've been thinking about lately. Mans violence is our birthright, we have had it forever. It's the greed of mankind that bothers me. Anyway, I enjoyed it.

What goes around, comes back around to service us again one day. Everything is more high-tech, even the man or woman that shoots the gun. But, the goal is still about the killing to reach your ultimate goal!
