hummingbird tales... native american myth retold by me...
HUMMINGBIRD TALE #1
when the great spirit had made all the birds and was very pleased with their beauty and purpose he noticed a few whisps of feather left on the table of creation he drew them all together and dusted them with a few drops of leftover flower petal and water colors thus wasting nothing he created a most beautiful bird whose wings he touched with the speed of the wind and he gave this tiny bird a very long bill to seek and spread the nectar of life this final tiny bird with wings of wind that hum songs will bring rain and help encourage abundance and joy for all other forms of life... I shall call him humming bird and with his fine long bill he shall pierce the tongues of ancient kings and this blood dripped on the sacred scrolls the elders burn will create a smoke in which legendary ancestor spirits will appear to guide the children of mother earth...
Beautiful words and photo. I liked how you supported the story and left the reader with a very good message. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Love the way you have captured this myth... I have always enjoyed First Nations' myths and you have coloured this one perfectly, Jeannemarie... thanks for sharing :)
Our neighbors have a hummingbird feeder in their lawn and I sometimes watch it for far too long just to see the wonder of these little creatures. How the wings flap so fast they disappear, so it looks like there is an alien creature hovering, like a drone taking pictures. Your writings seem to lean toward nature's bounty and the words that you use to paint these works of art are always spot on. My compliments. take care...dan
FINALLY, a poem dedicated to this fantastic, unique little creation. Hummingbirds are my favorite bird(that's real) to begin with, so this poem already gets at least 2/5 stars for me, but don't worry, it has many things that get it up to that 4.5/5 - 5/5 zone for me. First off, as always, the font color is relaxing and really looks like it was made to go with the awesome picture you've provided, and I can tell you put everything into this in order to make it the best possible tribute you could make. This whole poem is cram packed with imagery, literary devices, and high level vocabulary. By reading your last few pieces, I have been able to tell that you are not only a poet, but you are a poet that knows her techniques ,and knows them well. The native American myth influence really shows as well, and adds even more to this piece. I noticed that you titled this Hummingbird Tale #1. If this means what I think it means, I can't wait for the second part! :)

And all this time, I had thought that the humming bird flew from garden to garden every summer morning to provide back-up music as each garden came alive to face the day. I have been oh so, wrong!

with laughter abounding i thank you for the kind words...much enjoyed your comment...jc
I love hummers. Every flower in my yard is selected with them in mind. We also have feeders up high so cats cannot attack them as they feed. A beautiful bird and a lovely legend.
