BABY DOE

BABY DOE

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter
"

a tale of humankind

"

BABY DOE
baby found in dumpster
tossed like seeds made sterile
by mankind's rearrangement
of all things natural

“perraquat sprayed on pot fields
to make the product unsmokable
hormone games played with bees
tricking them into false belief
in successful reproductive cycles
cloning sheep into unproductive
copies of the original”

baby found in dumpster
wrapped in banana peels
in the crib of watermelon rind,
another chunk of refuse
in this designed for obsolescence
culture of excess and personal gratification...

final resting place
potters field
baby doe headstone
screaming into the universe

“man is no longer in sync
with the natural patterns of life...
man sees his offspring as refuse”
man will cease to exist
just like baby doe
forgotten...forever...

We are living in a time where people vindicate selfishness and dispose of anything unwanted...even if that is a baby. This is a wonderful write but a sad commentary of the world we are living in. Jan

thank you for reading and writing about my work
A very sad poem. Human kindness and common sense can be lost. So many options for unwanted children. This Baby Doe story is common in many places now. Thank you for sharing the strong and needed words to be read.

a sad epitaph when mankind degenerates almost as quickly as technology moves mankind forward!

profound write... thought-provoking and a stark description of how man is certainly out of sync with nature... and love the title... well-done

Striking in the lines of this write...you never let off the pedal...and shows in the lines as you get the reader involved in each stanza...and then again with the repeating line with the message...you want to be heard loud and clear...
