DANCING UNCONSCIOUS

DANCING UNCONSCIOUS

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter
"

me as a child in my mom's country kitchen dancing in sunbeams as i would later teach my daughter in the sunbeams of our kitchen while we cooked listening to fine rock music on KZAP...

"

DANCING UNCONSCIOUS

mother taught me
in the warm kitchen
of my youth
to dance
unconscious of the lessons
a pas de deux with motes
in sunlight shafts
humming sing along
spinning to dripdipping
like fluffy batter from the bowl into the hot oil
of soft rock flowing sweet from the radio
and
bouncing to float
hushed hush puppies
heavenly delicious ambrosia of movement
to rise frozen on tiptoe peaks
swift beaten stiff egg white meringue
browned into the perfection that became my sole purpose...
to live the dance of LOVE...

Jeannemarie The use of the dishes as movement in the kitchen for her dance is inspired-- the popping oil as fast maybe uncoordinated moves, while the meringue is smoothe and fluid.. I love to watch young children dance. The joy of life and music is a wonderful thing to watch. Thank you for giving us such an awesome piece of nostalgia with life love and dancing in happy sunbeams.

Wow, I just love this! So much energy and story all wrapped into one poem and so brilliantly written too! As a writer of poetry who enjoys spoken word I can imagine this would be excellent when spoken. Well done!!

makes me want to be there
This is lovely, Jeannemarie. My mother had a wooden spoon to keep me out of the kitchen.

A beautiful recipe followed to an appetizing conclusion! Tying together of cooking/baking with dance joins two outlets for creativity to flourish. Set in the kitchen, dancing between the sunbeams...all of these elements combine to illustrate one very happy sight; the untamed joy contained within the dance of a child. A lovely picture you've painted with delightfully articulate wording. Well done! take care...dan

I love this, so much so that I have had to read it several times... the mix of preparing food with the dancing is brilliant and if I close my eyes I can catch the scents and feel the movements around that kitchen... my mom loved to dance and our kitchen saw many mini-dances while my brothers and I played music... those are good memories and I thank you for sharing this piece and for allowing me to catch a glimpse of my own childhood... well-done, Jeannemarie

This is so light-hear-ted a poem as to make me smile all morning if I was not so bummed out by the hand that life has dealt to you. I can imagine that you do not need to hear others talk about your plight but, I can only say that human concern for you is a first order of kindness that comes built in when you are a child of God.

I really liked this one Jeannemarie
the carefree boogy-ing of childhood is all too short and we soon become very conscious of us and how we are perceived in the world.
I loved the play on meringue (merengue) - cool.

I loved how you used the description. Create place and vision with your words.
