Writer's Might

Writer's Might

A Poem by John Ciarmello

Writer’s Might

Buried behind this sandy knoll

petrified nails clutch

a tattered scroll.

The paper cracks beneath his grip

a wince, a glance

the stench of crypt.

Featured in this ancient scroll;

a script? a poem?

a captured soul?

Hearts then mourned with shoulders dipped;

his thoughts, his truths

his words once lipped.

Frayed cloth drapes his porous blades.

His words, his deliverance

now...

escapades.

Buried behind this sandy knoll

his petrified nails...his tattered scroll.

A glance, a grip

of his grayish-white.

Still prose in hand

is this writer’s might?

It is a question. And an ancient reminiscence? I don't know, but I love the feel of this poem. It must be read multiple times to unlatch a secret that is right in front of our eyes. I love this, so inspiring!

Your welcome!
I found it very cryptic, which I like because I love analyzing things. I also found the language suspenseful which drew me in. I really like it!

The words “petrified”, “mourned”, and “blade”, I found especially intriguing as they seemed to add in unique elements, and made me contemplate their significance.

I enjoyed reading it!

Of course!
even when we become petrified and the nails of death are scratching at the earth we left, we hope something of us will be found, and found to be worthwhile...those hopes lie in the words we leave behind...and we wish for those words to still have meaning long after we are gone.
excellent piece,
j.

Thank You Jacob! I think we as writer's are fortunate to have that legacy of the written word.
I enjoyed how you described writing. May reasons to write. I believe to release words thoughts and to save memories.
"Hearts then mourned with shoulders dipped;

His words, his deliverance

The above lines. Logical and true. Thank you John for sharing the amazing poetry.

Was my pleasure and you are welcome John.
Wow, John! What a great piece of poetry. I really like the cadence. It was almost like a sickly dark march in to the unknown. All the words used were tight together to create a feeling that something is not quite right. The feeling of apprehension. Good one. CD
