I was going to give you a radish

I was going to give you a radish

A Poem by jbop

Lying there, looking at my three hour nails against

your white sheets and that picture on your wall,

of the men on the empire state building.

Illuminated intermittently by the flashing light

of your stereo.

You played with my hair and touched my face,

as I ran my fingers along your collarbone

to your neck, which is the only neck I’ve ever

thought enough of to pass any sort of comment on.

You kissed me and we rubbed noses,

like we were in love or something.

I stayed awake to watch you sleep for a while, all perfect,

as usual.

I do hate you for that.

Intertwined, I held your hand, of which

I had no intention of letting go.

We were so close, close enough to feel your heart beat,

close enough for your breath to sweep my hair

from my ears, and your skin to graze my back.

I knew then, that would be the last time I would see you.
