A Horrible Truth

A Horrible Truth

A Poem by Justin Blackmon

here exists a rage inside of everyone
No matter how hard you try to hide it
It always shows through to someone
And just when you think that there’s no chance of it
You lose control and want to kill everything that moves
Nothing can stop it and you know you’re dangerous
It’s something that we all have and all that it proves
Is that it’s impossible to deny, it’s unanimous

Why don’t you show someone every once in a while
Let people know what you can do
Everyone messes with your life and criticizes your style
It’s not like they know what you’ve been through
That’s right and you can’t deny it
You know what you want to say but can’t
And it’s not to your benefit

But you’re just tired of all the lies
Because they just feed them to you
And you can see it in their eyes
But in their position would you tell them the truth
Or would you just lie to their faces like they do you
Noone really knows what they would do
They may say they do, but you know it’s not true
Human nature is based on last minute reactions
Decisions made on the fly
Life isn’t scripted
And to say that is like being blind
Blind to all the lies that you call life

Nothing can prepare you for death
But when it’s your time you’re gonna go
No more time for you and you take your last breath
Enjoy it while you can because it’s the last you get
After that there is nothing else for you
Hope you left something to be remembered by
Because noone remembers the losers
But the winners live forever
In the minds of those who come and go
Like everything’s one big show

Everyone’s got something to sell
Or a story to tell
So you window shop for what looks best
And forget all the rest
Because they never really mattered
But it’s their hopes and dreams you shattered

That’s how society is and its just you
In a life that feels untrue
To who you are
Remember nothing and maybe you’ll go far
Maybe you’ll crash and burn
Before you even get your turn

Who knew we could be so blind
Or that this world could be so unkind

Bloody hell, this poem is from 2008 and you still haven't received any reviews for it?!

It's brilliant, I've got to say, I feel like it captures the essence of what you were feeling, what a lot of people tend to feel at times. I like how you wrote it so that the narration seems like it's directed towards yourself, like you talking to yourself.

"So you window shop for what looks best
And forget about all the rest"
That's what society does, the pretty survive, the fit, the glamorous. Society is pathetic, but it thrives.

And quite obviously I suck at reviews...I made my dastardly attempt, though.
