Of Heaven and Hell

Of Heaven and Hell

A Poem by Justin Blackmon

I turn out the lights
With the sound of silence so deafening
I lay upon my bed as my soul fights
And for some reason I feel I'm sinking

I scream for help
But it's as if I didn't make a sound
What can it be that's happening to myself
Beneath my feet there is no ground

I set my blind eyes upon North
Plead to God to save me
For all I'm worth
Lift this curse and let me be

The me you knew is no more
Replaced with something you'll never see
There's nothing more I need you for
Because you've shown me how you'll always be

God, how can I tell

If I've been condemned to hell?

this was a really interesting piece. i'm reading Dante's Inferno right now so it gave me a rather different outlook on how confusiung it is to define a person as good or bad, because fault is found everywhere. the word choice was perfect in getting a message across to the reader, but my only concern is with the flow of the poem. it seems like once you find a rhythm with a set of lines it's completely altered in the next set. overall, good work :) can't wait to read more!
