A Poem by john holt

And the sea said, forming
a wide mouth from its swells,

"Long have I sought my waters
to boil; I fear I shall never be
rid of the things that
dwell within me."

and the fields said, in a feeling
of fraternity with the sea,

"I hope some day for flash fires
in summer, when all the rivers
are dry."

and said the mountain,
"Were I to freeze solid forever,
no thing could climb
or grow upon my back,
lest they expire in the cold."

and the earth and its organs
fell silent, and spoke no more,
and the wind blew across
the tops of grasses, and
the leaves of oaks
shook in the air, and
the mind went back
to precambria,
and was lost

I like this, and I'm not entirely sure why. It's very well written but seems to lack a point - or maybe I'm just missing it. Either way, it's a nice read. Well written.
