Train Tracks

Train Tracks

A Poem by Jess Rose

I hear the whistle blare in the distance
Dread floods into my chest
Blinking red gates bar my path and I am trapped in the place I have always been
The wheels roar as they rumble past
Full and empty cars race, bursting with anticipation yet lacking in confidence
I am unaware of what lies beyond the tracks
The unknown frightens me
But I'm terrified also of remaining on this side of the crossroads
Never moving forward.
Never reaching my potential of where I'm supposed to be
Patience
With time, the danger will pass and the blockade will lift allowing you your decision
To move on? Or to return home
Now is the time for patience
If you don't think, it can cost you your life
If you're impatient, if you don't wait
You can find yourself crushed in the weight of what you have done.
You'll know when you're ready
The train will soon pass

Yes, life is like that. It comes noisily, clamorously barreling along at times, then the calm...until the next train. I liked this a lot. Great imagery!
