The Top of The World

The Top of The World

A Poem by Jess Rose

Sister and I went to explore,

Looking for some clues.

Her in her brown rainbow shorts.

Me in my red shoes.

As she ran along behind,

I looked up the mountain, tall.

If I could climb something so high,

I could rule it all!

Then I tried to scale the rocks,

But Sister cried, so sweet,

“Wouldn’t it be much more fun

If we climbed in our bare feet?”

I pondered her question, long and hard.

I thought about the risks.

But I threw my shoes into the trees.

They soared like flying discs!

My sister laughed, and then we climbed,

Higher towards the sun.

And when we reached the very top,

I looked down on everyone.

I gazed upon my sister, small.

A tiny little girl.

Then I said to Sister, dear,

“Welcome to the Top of the World.”
