Ordinary, EverdayA Poem by Jennifer Pardea poem that I wrote and gave to my boyfriend for his birthday a few years back. . .
Ordinary, everyday: the way you roll over in bed to slide that much closer, to fit that much tighter. Ordinary, everyday: the way you tease me, complement me, riddle my brain, with your attention, your perspectives. It’s ordinary, everyday, the way we fit so well together. We both know how it is to stand on the edge, one foot in, one foot out, teetering. . . (too smart to join in, too lonely to be left out) On an ordinary any-day: I eat my whole foods; you eat your fast foods. I play my piano, you play your games. I give every insecurity in my head ample time to air its view— questioning us, questioning the value of questioning. Then I settle into this ordinary anyday, for it is what is it is, perfectly. I am me, and you are you, and we travel through this life together-- though sometimes haltingly-- with ears and hearts open, with hands intertwined. © 2008 Jennifer PardeReviews
